Macros. You may have heard the term "macros", and thought what in the world are Macros? And why do I need to know about them? Isn't it just calories in vs. calories out???
Macros are the components that make up our food. Macros each have a unique function and should comprise a percentage of your total calories for the day. The percentage of macros is different based on each individual's goals or calorie needs.
Macros consist of Protein, Carbohydrates, and Fats. In order to achieve an athletic performance, or aesthetic goal, or long term health, using different percentages of Macros can help accomplish these goals.
It has been shown that eating a certain amount of Proteins, Carbs, and Fats can improve your body composition and performance.
If you are new to Macros, and easy way to start eating the correct protein, carbs, and fats is to create a balanced meal. A Balanced meal simply consists of quality food choices with a portion from each macro category.
Below is a visual illustration of how to create a Balanced meal with Macros.

Simply aim to fill half your plate with vegetables, and split the other half with protein and carbs. Add a little bit of fat and you have a complete balanced meal.
Food quality is very important in terms of health. Try filling your plate with quality food choices.
Here are some examples from each Macro Category.
Proteins: Lean Ground Turkey, Fish, Eggs, Egg Whites, Protein Powder, Lean Ground Beef, Chicken breast, Lean Ground Chicken, Greek Yogurt
Carbs: Brown Rice, Quinoa, Barley, Oats, Whole Grain Pasta, Sweet Potato, Sprouted Bread, Jasmine Rice, Steel Cut Oats
Fats: Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Almonds, Walnuts, Cashews, Avocado, Flax Seed, Almond butter, Coconut Oil
*These are just suggestions and are not exclusive.
